Statistics: Russia’s inflation at zero in August, 3.6% annually

MOSCOW, Sep 4 (PRIME) -- Russia’s inflation slowed down to zero in August from 0.4% in July, and amounted to 3.6% in annual terms in August, the Federal State Statistics Service said in a statement on Friday.

The service registered a 0.8% deflation of food prices in the country in the month as compared with July, registering monthly deflation for a second month in a row. In annual terms, the food prices rose by 4.3% in August, while non-food prices rose by 0.4% on the month and by 3.4% on the year.

Prices for potatoes fell by 19.6% in the month, for tomatoes by 15.6%, for onions by 14.9%, for grapes by 14.6%, for apples by 11.9%, for cucumbers by 9.7%, for cabbage by 9.2%, for carrots by 9.1%, for millet by 1.5%, for chicken eggs by 1%, for frozen fish and sterilized by 0.6%, and for chicken meat, buckwheat, coffee, and cognac by 0.2%.

At the same time, prices for oranges rose by 14.1%, for sugar by 2.8%, for pork by 1.4%, for lamb meat by 1%, for canned fish and cheeses by 0.9%, for caviar by 0.8%, for frozen vegetables by 0.6%, for dried fruits by 0.4%.
